Preceptors have the option to volunteer for a wide range of time commitments across a semester. Our least demanding course starts at 50 hours per student. Our medium-length commitments range from 75 hours in women™s health to 150 hours in pediatrics. Our students complete 200 to 225 hours per semester as they approach their final semester prior to graduation.
Family Nurse Practitioner
MD, DO, NP: Adult, awake, alert, oriented, ambulatory patient setting such as family practice, internal medicine, ED, occupational health, urgent care, retail care where a thorough head-to-toe assessment is performed utilizing stethoscope and otoscope - 50 hours
+ CNM: Outpatient, women's health setting - 75 hours
+ PNP: Outpatient, primary pediatric setting - 150 hours
Outpatient: family practice or internal medicine - 200 hours
Outpatient: family practice or internal medicine - 225 hours
Acute Adult Gero Nurse Practitioner
MD, DO, NP: Adult, awake, alert, oriented, ambulatory patient setting such as family practice, internal medicine, ED, occupational health, urgent care, retail care where a thorough head-to-toe assessment is performed utilizing stethoscope and otoscope - 50 hours
+ AG-ACNP: ED or acute care settings - 75 hours
+ Hospitalists: ED, acute care settings, ICUs - 200 hours
+ Intensivists: ED, acute care settings, ICUs - 200 hours
+ Various subspecialities/+specialty practices - 225 hours
Psych Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
MD, DO, NP: Adult, awake, alert, oriented, ambulatory patient setting such as family practice, internal medicine, ED, occupational health, urgent care, retail care where a thorough head-to-toe assessment is performed utilizing stethoscope and otoscope - 50 hours
Psychiatrist (MD or DO) or PMHNP: Inpatient or outpatient, attention and mood disorders, pediatric/adolescent/adult/geriatric - 100 hours
+LMHC, psychologist, or MSW: Inpatient or outpatient, group and family therapy, pediatric/adolescent/adult/geriatric “ 150 hours
+LMHC, psychologist, or MSW: Inpatient or outpatient, attachment, cognition, exacerbation, group interventions, caregiver support, and recovery-oriented care, pediatric/adolescent/adult/geriatric - 225 hours
Forensic Nursing
MD, DO, NP: Adult, awake, alert, oriented, ambulatory, alive patient setting such as family practice, internal medicine, ED, occupational health, urgent care, retail care where a thorough head-to-toe assessment is performed utilizing stethoscope and otoscope - 50 hours
Various forensic settings such as medical examiner/coroner, law enforcement, legal, SANE, non-profit organization, etc. - 150 hours
Nursing Education and Faculty Role
MD, DO, NP: Adult, awake, alert, oriented, ambulatory, alive patient setting such as family practice, internal medicine, ED, occupational health, urgent care, retail care where a thorough head-to-toe assessment is performed utilizing stethoscope and otoscope - 50 hours
MSN-educated or higher RN, patient-facing in advanced practice role (CRNP, CRNA, CNM, CNS, etc.) - 75 hours
Nursing program faculty member or simulation lab director - 75 hours
